A Family Tradition
The story of Saladino’s, Inc., is proof that great things can come from personal commitment, unwavering determination and old fashioned family values.
The story begins in Fresno, California, where Don Saladino worked in the meat department of his father’s grocery store. In 1944, Don combined his meat packaging experience with Old World family recipes from Italy’s Calabrese region, and launched Saladino Sausage Company – the business grew quickly and earned a widespread reputation for delicious, high-quality sausage products.
In 1980, Don’s son, Craig, joined his father in the family business. Together, they expanded their product offerings to include specialty sausage and linguica, which they sold to local pizzerias and restaurants. The company’s wide variety of raw and cooked sausage products attracted a loyal following among a growing number of retail and institutional customers.
As the Saladino name came to symbolize the highest level of quality and integrity, more and more opportunities came to the family business. Through careful growth, rock-solid reliability, superior quality and a deep, abiding commitment to customer service, the business developed into the specialized foodservice distribution company known today as Saladino’s Incorporated.
Craig Saladino, now president of Saladino’s Incorporated leads a company built on strong partnerships with its foodservice customers, vendors and associates. His philosophy is the same as his father’s: to sell only those products he would use if he owned the restaurant himself – a concept that continues to set Saladino’s far apart from the competition.
In 2001, Saladino’s moved into its new state-of-the-art distribution facility in Fresno California. Custom-engineered for the family’s unique business approach, the facility added numerous features and technologies that enabled Saladino’s to further raise the bar of superior customer service and satisfaction. Increased warehouse capability, climate-controlled docks and greater order efficiencies enabled Saladino’s to expand across California, Northern Nevada, Western Idaho and further expansion planned throughout the Western United States.
But no matter how large Saladino’s may grow, the company will always be guided by Don Saladino’s founding vision for quality and integrity. His motto, “Never forget where you came from,” is evident in every aspect of Saladino’s business practices, which has always considered its number-one priority to be customer service.
